Welcome to Term 3! There are some important dates for your calendar so please see ‘Upcoming Events’ tab. In Term 3 for the Connected Curriculum, we will be focusing on why the universe works. U3 and U5 will be looking at the following big questions: How are people and places connected? What natural resources are important to Australia and different parts of the world? How do we use the Earth's resources? How do people use water? Where is the source of the water you use and how is it transported to you? How can people use water responsibly? Where is Australia in relation to the rest of the world? Students will engage in a range of different activities that will allow them to explore these questions further. The Connected Curriculum project students will work on this term will be to create a PowerPoint presentation that focuses on one of the Earth’s resources. Students will develop their research skills, ability to take notes and record summary of important information. In addition, students will learn how to make a multi-slide PowerPoint presentation, save and open their work, make text larger and add images to support their information. Literacy We will be focusing on reading comprehension strategies, in particular making inferences and applying knowledge to new situations. We will be continuing to consolidate our knowledge of imaginative texts and recounts, but will be introducing procedural texts as an added focus. Literacy groups based on your students' needs will be continue to be held four days a week with students moving between U3 and U5, as we work collaboratively. U3 and U5 will undertake an author study together, which will provide students with opportunities to further their knowledge about narrative and research. Numeracy We will be continuing to consolidate our number sense and problems solving strategies this term. Students will also be focusing on chance, data, money, time, location and transformation.
